Apple iPhone 4S users consume twice as much data as the iPhone 4

According to a study done by a company known as Arieso, users of the Apple iPhone 4S consume twice as much data as the Apple iPhone 4 which is more than likely the case thanks to the data hog known as Siri.

In addition to doubling up the data usage by the iPhone 4, the iPhone 4S is also surpassing data used by the Apple iPad. Arieso says that the spike in data usage is due to the increasing use of online based services such as the previously mentioned Siri. For the sake of comparison iPhone 4 users consumed 1.6x the amount of data as the iPhone 3G. ?

Should the revelation that iPhone 4S users consumer twice the data surprise you? Absolutely not. People are using their phones more and more every day and that goes for every smartphone, not just the iPhone. If we weren?t using our phones to their greatest potential then you wouldn?t see any data caps or speed throttling. Whenever the iPhone 5, or iPhone 6 or whatever it is going to be called comes out then you can almost guarantee that will use even more data than the iPhone 4S.

For those of you that have owned an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S, have you noticed that you are consuming a lot more data? Tell us what you think.

Speaking Of? Pink with Jesse Draper (TCTV)

SpeakingOfDraperThis week's guest on Speaking Of is no stranger to the world of television. She's Jesse Draper, creator and host of online talk show, "The Valley Girl Show." The show profiles entrepreneurs and businesspeople, but in a format not often seen in Silicon Valley: on a pink-themed set, Draper draws her guests out of their shells in fun, light-hearted interviews that focus less on numbers and more on what the guests are like outside of their work lives. A Silicon Valley native, Draper grew up around entrepreneurs. Her inspiration for The Valley Girl Show came from watching her father's friends ? her heroes ? being grilled in television interviews, and noticing that no one was talking about the fun, creative sides of these entrepreneurs. She set out to create an entertaining business talk show, decided to play off of the stereotypical Southern California "valley girl" persona, and ran with the pink.

Salt Springer murdered in Mexico

Condolence messages began pouring onto Robin Wood?s Facebook page on Tuesday morning, fewer than 12 hours after the Salt Spring Island resident was shot and killed during a home invasion in the resort town of Melaque on Mexico?s Pacific coast.

Arvid Chalmers, an island-based realtor who winters in the coastal town, confirmed Wood died before getting transported to hospital.

?Unfortunately it is true,? Chalmers wrote in a brief email from Mexico on Tuesday afternoon. ?We had a home invasion last night by two robbers, one of whom had a pistol. Robin got involved and was shot as a result.?

Although Chalmers called police when thieves left the home, emergency personnel could not reach the nearest major hospital, located approximately 20 kilometres away, before his friend passed away.

?The robbers left and I called the police. However we did not get to Cihautlan in time,? Chalmers wrote.

Wood, 68, was a well-known Salt Springer, former owner of the Beddis Road Garage and mechanic at the old Payless Gas station on Rainbow Road.

Chalmers said he is physically fine but heartbroken as a result of the incident. He did not provide any more details about the incident or offer a possible motive for the robbery.

Fellow Salt Spring resident Rick Neufeld arrived in Melaque on Tuesday morning.

?We are mostly walking zombies trying to process how unfair, how absurd [it is] that this should happen to good people,? he wrote in an email.

He said details of the incident are still speculative.

?My heart breaks, my tears fall for my dear brother Robin,? writes Sharon Tolagson on Wood?s Facebook site. ?So needless, so very loved. Sending hugs to all the sad loved ones on Salt Spring right now.?

Anna Hughes, a Gulf Islands Secondary School graduate who lives in Victoria, wrote ?thinking of you Robin and your smiling face always, many thoughts out to family and friends. So sorry to hear this news, your kindness is forever in my heart.?

Melaque is a favorite haunt for many Salt Springers who seek reprieve from the winter blahs. The small coastal town of fewer than 12,000 people is located approximately 200 kilometres south of Puerto Vallarta and is reported to host relatively few acts of violent crime.

A spokesperson from the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City did not return a request for an interview before the Driftwood?s Tuesday afternoon deadline.

Occupy protest follows 123rd annual Rose Parade (AP)

PASADENA, Calif. ? The 2012 Tournament of Roses brought its flowery floats and strutting bands to a worldwide audience Monday under clear blue skies, and in its wake came a scruffier parade ? hundreds of anti-Wall Street protesters.

The 123rd annual New Year's Day event, with the theme "Just Imagine," flowed along downtown Pasadena to the cheers of hundreds of thousands of sidewalk spectators.

An estimated 40 million people viewed this year's procession of 44 floats, 16 marching bands and 22 equestrian troupes on U.S. television.

There were 10 arrests overnight, including four felonies, as thousands of spectators staked out viewing places along the route but that figure was down from the previous year, police said.

"Everything went very, very well. We're very pleased," police Lt. Phlunte Riddle said.

On the heels of the two-hour parade came anti-Wall Street protesters in a pre-arranged demonstration.

The thunder of the retreating marching bands mingled in the air with chants of "Banks got bailed out, we got sold out" as the Occupy the Rose Parade demonstrators retraced about 1.5 miles of the 5.5-mile parade route before veering off for a rally near City Hall.

They carried a 250-foot-long banner that said "We the People" to represent the U.S. Constitution. Some also held a 70-foot-long octopus made from recycled plastic bags that represented the tentacles of perceived corporate greed.

"This is about getting money out of politics," said Greg Stevens, a 38-year-old public health lecturer at the University of Southern California. "I support everything this movement is about."

As the protesters marched by, some Rose Parade spectators yelled "get a job" while others snapped photos and cheered.

"It's kind of crazy but kind of exciting," said Alana Olvick, 26, of Valencia, Calif.

The ragtag group of protesters made an interesting comparison to the slick, glittering Rose Parade offerings.

"It's contradicting the parade," Olvick said.

Behind the protesters came three truckloads of Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies in riot gear but no arrests were immediately made and the protest was noisy but peaceful.

Occupy the Rose Parade organizer Pete Thottam estimated the crowd of protesters at 5,000, although police said it was around 400.

Police, parade and city officials held numerous meetings with the protest organizers to ensure that they did not disrupt the parade.

Heightened security is nothing new to the parade, which took place on Jan. 2 this year because New Year's Day falls on a Sunday.

Police also stepped up measures after 9/11 and the Y2K threat, and have regularly dealt with protests through the years ranging from anti-Vietnam war demonstrators to Native Americans incensed at the choice of a descendant of Christopher Columbus as grand marshal.

This year's parade featured Iraq war veteran J.R. Martinez as grand marshal, the children and grandchildren of Roy Rogers on a float commemorating cowboys, and the parents of Christina-Taylor Green, the 9-year-old girl killed in the mass shooting that injured U.S. Rep Gabrielle Giffords last year, on the Donate Life float honoring organ donors. The Greens donated their daughter's corneas.

The 2012 parade was the first in 58 years without the famed Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale horses after the company withdrew in a change of marketing strategy.

UFC 141?s Three Stars: Overeem, Hendricks and Hettes

UFC 141?s Three Stars: Overeem, Hendricks and Hettes

The last card of 2011 started slowly, but became must-watch when the pay-per-view fights started. In the last five bouts, three fighters earned first-round knockouts. Here are our three stars from the eve of the Eve. Tell us yours in the comments or on Facebook.

No. 1 star -- Alistair Overeem: Any question about his lack of competitive opponents was answered with a first-round knockout of former champ Brock Lesnar. Overeem overwhelmed Lesnar from the bell, then used knees to attack where Lesnar was most vulnerable. Next, he'll get to match up with Junior dos Santos in a fight that is nearly guaranteed to end in a knockout.

No. 2 star -- Johny Hendricks: You could practically hear the MMA world groan as the Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks match-up was announced. Fitch's last nine fights went the distance, and Hendricks is a top-notch wrestler. Of course this would be another boring grapplefest. Hendricks proved us all wrong with a 12-second knockout of a man with a tough chin.

No. 3 star -- Jim Hettes: Did you expect Hettes to put on a three-round beatdown of Nam Phan? Me neither. "The Kid" is now 10-0, and ready for a step up in competition. After that display, he has earned it.
